Carl Rakosi / Dos poemas

Experimento con una rata

Cada vez que tocaba ligeramente aquel resorte
sonaba una campana
y un hombre salía de una caja
diligente y perspicaz
como una de nosotras
y me traía queso

¿Cómo había caído
en mi poder?

Poesía

Su naturaleza es parecer
al mismo tiempo absoluta y mortal
como si un niño hubiese pasado por ahí
o la huella de su pie
se hubiera conservado
inalterada
bajo las cenizas de Herculano.

THE EXPERIMENT WITH A RAT

Every time I nudge that spring
a bell rings
and a man walks out of a cage
assiduous and sharp
like one of us
and bring me cheese

How did he fall
into my power?

POETRY

Its nature is to look
both absolute and mortal
as if a boy had passed through
or the imprint of his foot
had been preserved
unchanged
under the ash of Herculaneum.
